We Launch Missoni Home!

Jane Clayton & Co are thrilled to welcome Missoni Home to our website - a legendary global brand with firm roots in fashion and now more recently, interiors.

Missoni was established in 1953 by Rosita and Ottavio Missoni, who started out designing from their knitwear shop in Gallarate, Northern Italy. By 1958, the very first Missoni fashion line was presented in Milan, and by 1962 the iconic zigzag pattern was formed. A golden era in the 70s, followed by international recognition by some the fashion industries biggest influencers, helped to form one of the most successful luxury lifestyle brands in the world today.

Now, three generations of the Missoni family work across the business ensuring that the iconic brand stays as relevant and influential as ever before. After handing over reins of the fashion business to her daughter Angela in 1983, Rosita collaborated with her family’s fabric mill in Northern Italy to establish Missoni Home fabrics, one of the many sub-lines which make up Missoni’s impressive and diverse repertoire.

We are delighted to be able offer Missoni Home’s iconic fabrics on our website, and to properly introduce the brand, we have selected some of our favourite collections to show you in more detail.

“Inspirations come as they wish… sometimes you’re looking for them, sometimes they happen unexpectedly.” – Rosita Missoni

The new collections are perfectly suited to modern tastes, with trend led metallic elements throughout, and newly explored colour palettes not previously associated with the Missoni aesthetic. The new Nordic Fantasy collection has an earthy palette, with alpine florals and elements inspired from the mystical Northern lights. The toned down, soft design of the Rose Garden collection also lends itself perfectly to the minimalistic Scandi vibes of Nordic Fantasy.

The new Copper Geranium and Silver Springtime collections nail the current metallic trend. The delicate metallic threads running through the fabrics give off a subtle shimmer in the light, and the dark greys, twilight blues and dusky lilac tones are very stylish and contemporary.

On or off the catwalk, Missoni Home fabrics stay bold, bright and patterned. The new Geranium collection works perfectly with the Springtime collection, and contain everything you could possibly want from a summertime launch - happy, sunshine tones, floral geranium prints and ombre effect zigzags.

The most iconic fashion line fabrics have been adapted for use in the home, as seen in the Master Moderno collection. The Passiflora design is one of the most famous of the many Missoni florals, originally seen printed on silk dresses, skirts and scarves. The design was re-scaled and re-coloured for use in the home, and during the years has been offered in new colours and new sizes. Paired with the zigzag Kew design, as seen below, the result is particularly striking.

It’s a testament to the versatility of Missoni Home designs that even in black and white, with the punchy colours removed, the fabrics are still incredibly appealing. The new Black & White collection is ideal for colour shy individuals who still want to inject the Missoni style into their homes. The Anemones Dream collection creatively interprets the effect of shadow and shade with it's own black and white designs along with the occasional injection of muted colour.

The Missoni prints are continuously reformed and re-imagined in order to suit contemporary trends, and the Oriental Garden collection is a prime example of this. Whilst browsing through old archived prints, Rosita Missoni found a pattern from 1971 which was originally inspired by the orient. As the design industry continues to focus on the Far East, the archived pattern formed the base of the inspiration for the 2016 collection. Oriental flowers and the smaller scale chevron prints combine with aplomb to exude sophisticated oriental elegance.

From catwalk to couch, Missoni Home continues to prove that fashion is just as important for the home as it is the wardrobe. Each year, Missoni Home reveal refreshing new fabric collections which manage to remain rooted to their heritage, but still excite and inspire us all, leaving us eager to see what they come up with next. An exciting, iconic brand, and we cannot be more delighted to welcome Missoni Home to the website.
